Matlosana”Klerksdorp”: The City is not the same after this past Sunday’s Macef Heritage Day Celebrations at the city council’s gardens. The biggest cultural event took place in the city after a very long time since we’ve seen a cultural event of this magnitude taking place in Matlosana.
MMC Pogisho Mabeli of arts and culture opened the ceremony with a brief massage of support, after the national anthem was sung to officially get the show on the road. The glance of different cultural traditional attires in different designs and colours made the festival a marvel to watch. A total of 24 groups performed various traditional dances including Setswana, Sesotho, Xhosa, Zulu, pantsula dance, contemporary dance. The groups came from Jouberton, Kanana, Khuma, Tigane and Makwassie.
Stanza Mmoki also performed his Setswana peom and spoke about his journey of winning the national competition of poetry in East London on 25th February 2017, he will be traveling to represent the country in Amsterdam very soon.
SATMA “South African Traditional Music Awards” nominees Dinonyane Cultural Group, Dikwena Tsa Matlosana and Kopana Ke Matla are some of the groups came to perform on Sunday. Others include Abantwana bo mthonyama, Matlosana Performing Arts “NPA”, Tshimologo ya pina, Maleta Ngwao, Relosika,
Stakeholders for the MACEF show included Builders Warehouse, Sportsman Warehouse, Aurum, Rehabilitation Healing and Renewal “RHR” Maklera Magazine, StaFM, Matlosana TV, CATA, The City of Matlosana Municipality and many more others.
MACEF has three other events left to close off it’s 2017 Heritage Celebrations Schedule, this includes the MACEF Music Workshop Gallar Dinner, the MACEF Educational Tour and the MACEF Disability Fashion Show at Matlosana Mall on 29 September.
Dr Khunou the founder of MACEF, his team under Motsieng Mooketsi and Lebogang Phefo who handled the media coverage of MACEF, Mr Nkosana Mondi and Tsholofelo Dikoma from StarFM who were the MCs and Music group coordinators, Tshepo Mtshere the coordinator for MACEF and Christina Mekgwe the administrator of MACEF all thanked the support received from everyone who came to the Heritage Day Celebrations Show.
