Johannesburg: At the age of 16 years old Cassper Nyovest already knew what he wanted he struggled for 10 years trying to get in the game until he met HHP who signed him in his record label, fast forward to 2017 he has achieved landmarks in the music industry like no artist has ever done before in South Africa, “Nyovest” is running his own race like no other person can and the phase at which he is doing it, is increasing rapidly.
Despite critism from artists, fellow rappers and people in the country Refiloe Phoolo is as confident as ever before and his never giving up spirit seems to be his tool of success and through this positivity he has been able to capture the hearts of South Africans, Africans and the World from all walks of life, this attitude is working in his favour as he is able to sell shows, get sponsorships, and increase his following.
With the historic #FillUpTheDome at a 20 000 capacity which was sold out in 2015, followed by #FillUpOrlandoStadium in 2016 which was 90% sold out as his second historic move, South Africa was not ready for what Cassper Nyovest had in store for #FillUpFNBStadium, the theme of the lion king was blended at this year’s concert. Months before the show could take place “Aubuti FillUp” hinted the idea to his fans on social media, and he was seen with Mr Lebo M, who is the brains behind the classic lion king story which has made him an international star in the film, arts and theatre industry “Nyovest” fused his “Tswana culture” and its traditional dance into the show, he wore a “Shope” an inherent tswana traditional male attire and performed with a traditional dance group, which captured the attention Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa.
On the 2nd of December 2017 Cassper Nyovest did the unthinkable again and put South Africa on the world map by Filling Up FNB Stadium which has a total capacity of 90 000 and “King Mufasa” was gunning for 75 000. Although the show was not sold out 68 000 tickets were sold and the golden circle tickets were sold out.
The show went beyond the expectations of his critics, he arrived on stage wearing a lion skin, with shades, a black vest, and black leather trousers, the crowd screamed from the top of their lungs at the glance of the spectacle. The stage was incredibly setup with two large inflatable lions, and African artficial trees, colourful lighting, Screens, a drone and a very powerful sound.
Cassper Nyovest shut the country down on Saturday setting social media on fire, his performace was nothing short of par excellence and the execution of the show was world class. He performed along side HHP the man who discovered him and signed him in his stable and Thaso of Impact Sounds record label.
The New Age Doc Shebelaza shared the stage with top South African acts like A-Recee, Frank Casino, YoungstaCPT, Shimza, Sho Madjozi, Lengedary Dj Oskido, Morena, Dj Tira and Amadada, Babes Wodumo, Distruction Boys, Major League Djs, Riky Rick, record label members Nadia Nakai and Tshego.
Somizi made a short appearance as he introduced Nyovest to the stage. After only a few songs in the show, it started raining but didn’t deterre “Mufasa” and his fans he thank god for the rain and said it is a blessing. Kwesta this year’s number one #MtvBaseHottestMC performed his banger “Ngudu” featuring Cassper Nyovest after the song he thanked Nyovest and Said ” Dawg Thank you!… Thank you! for making us understand that this thing is possible, you understand me look at this thing, this because of you dawg, On behalf of South Africa, on behalf of the music industry thank you we appreciate it , much love” As soon as he finished saying that he left the stage and the crowd screamed “Spirit!” After a few munites he came back, spirit dropped and FNB Stadium went into a euphoria of a climax.
Cassper Nyovest told the fans to switch their cellphone flashes on and he beautifully performed Destiny a “Malaika” sample where she features American soul singer “Goapele” the crowed sang along to the song, it was followed by the classic that put “Nyovest” on Doc Shebeleza and closed off the show with “Tito Mboweni”
