Khuma: Sbusiso Mhlongo is another one of many dynamites from the small township of Khuma in the east of Klerksdorp, Stilfontien, Sbusiso was born and bred in this township that has produced influential people in every sector of society in the country. The young man speaks proudly about his background, and growing up in the poverty stricken township that bred him into a success story he is today.
The 24 year old matriculated at Vuyani Mawethu High School in 2010 at the age of 17. He then headed straight to The University of the North West, to study Bachelors Degree in Financial Accounting, this gave him an opportunity to want to study further for which he obtained a Bcom Honours Degree in the same field of study, and further studying a Bcom in Management Accounting.
His hard work and dedication has opened doors for him and now his a member of the South African Institute of Business Accountants, and a certified Sage One Accounting Adviser which he passed with 96.72%.
Currently his one of two board members of TVBK Holdings Group Company which deals with the following; TVBK FINANCIAL SERVICES , TVBK ENERGY, TVBK AFRICA CONSTRUCTION AND PROJECTS, TVBK IT SOLUTIONS, TVBK Entertainment and Events, TVBK GO BBBEE.
He had to face many challenges to get to where he is today as he says “I had to work my way up in the company and the challenges I faced were to adopt to new opportunities, responsibilities and more importantly to be able to focus as young as i’am to be able to also delegate, to be credible and be a leader. Mhlongo attributes his successes to his parents who nurtured him all throughout his life and Mr Thabo Seleke The Chairman of TVBK Group Company who groomed and mentored him into what he is today.
As a Qualified Business Accountant in Practice and a Qualified Sage One Accounting Adviser he has worked his way up to the corporate ladder consistently, he began as a trainee CFO, and now he is a Group Chief Financial Officer for the company that he joined immediately after his studies in 2014. Today he holds positions as a Director, Accounts Manager, and Divisions Manager at TVBK Holdings Group, this also makes him the youngest CFO in the North West, after a CFO research was made it uncovered that there is no CFO his age in the province and the only other young CFOs are in Gauteng Province and their ages are from 27-35 .
One Friday the 26th of January 2018 he came back to his township to give a motivational talk to students in association with Maklera Magazine, StarFM, and Moja Magazine. The first school that was visited is Borakanelo High School followed by Vuyani Mawethu a school he studied and matriculated at in 2010.
Nthabiseng Mkwanazi of StarFM gave a small biography about herself and broke the ice by doing a poem dedicated to “Women” and Mr Daniel Kinodwa of Dillion Group who gave a motivational talk to the Grade 12s and gave away his book titled “Turning yesterday’s failure into today’s success”
Students were given an opportunities to ask questions about career path choices and the fields that the dignitaries are in.
