Jouberton: Y-CAP is a programme initiated by the Department of Education and EmpowerVate Trust, which is a non-profit, and Public beneficial organization that aims to empower and motivate new generations of active citizens with positive values. Y-CAP stands for Youth Citizen Action Programme.
On 9 June 2018, Are-Itshokeng Primary School represented Matlosana at the Y-CAP competitions in Rustenburg, The competition is about instilling and promoting a culture of active participation of citizens in the country. The school participated in the competition since 2017, with a focus on the following topics; Littering, driving the message that Cleanliness is Next to Godliness, “Where they miraculously obtained third position at the District level, as well as Provincial level”. This year’s topic is based on; Violence amongst learners, the Lack of Parental Support in the learner’s school work, resulting in these learners performing poorly academically, and also being absent without reporting at school.
The Y-Cap team’s goal is to instill a violent free environment in communities, because in order to build a better nation, we need everyone’s support and everyone to be involved.
“We have realised that our school is not the only one experiencing these issues, therefore….we have decided that we need to involve more stakeholders, and other schools around Matlosana as well as spread the information to our community”. Says! the team..
The victorious Y-CAP team and the School proudly announced that they will be procceding to the National elliminations, after obtaining first position at Rusternburg, Tlhabane Resource Centre, where they represented The Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality after obtaining second position in the District level of the competition.
