The #TPFoundationFunWalk2019 reaches a milestone attandance

Jouberton: In the early morning sunrise of Thursday 21 March, people of Matlosana, North West and the neighbouring provinces of Freestate, Gauteng and Northren Cape were pouring into the historic Matlosana Stadium in Jouberton for the fourth Annual Charity and Health Fun Walk which is organized by; The Thabo Pelesane Foundation.

The fun walk has increasingly being growing from strength to strength since it began in 2016 with less than 500 people in attandance. This year, the walk received an overwhelming 2 500 people from as far as Zeerust, Ganyesa, Welkom, Bloemfontien and Johannesburg who painted City of Matlosana green with Dirang Mmogo Enterprises t-shirts and hats.

The notable and exciting part was to see mixed races taking a walk and associating with everyone in the dusty streets of Jouberton, Miss Klerksdorp finalists including Mona Beukes, were thrilled to be part of the walk. Two former Mayors of Matlosana Mr China Dodovu, and Mr Ofentse Mogale took part and finished the walk. Well-known church leaders Pastor Sankwela Makaudi and Pastor Mudau couldn’t be outshined by others as joined the masses too. As local schools are beneficiaries of sanitary towels, there was a strong presence of local school Principals from the following schools Vaal Reefs Technical, Alabama Secondary, Chris Hani, Itirele Primary and from as far as Zeerust Mr Teach Kgonothi school Principal from Onkgopotse Tiro school whom his school benefited from the sanitary initiative in 2018.

Before the walk commenced North West Mec for Health Honourable Madoda Sambatha gave a Powerful message of Support as the main aim of the walk was to promote good health, TB awareness, collection of sanitary for school girls.
Aurum Institute and Department of health officials were present to Test and screen patients for various illnesses and mostly testes for Hiv, Sugar Diabetes and TB.

The Fun Walk added an exciting aerobics session conducted by M.Y.O.P Gym Club based in Jouberton.

The objectives of the walk is to collect as many sanitary towels as possible in order to distribute them to make sure that young girls can go to school during their menstrual period.

Another catalyst addition to the fun walk has been the teenage girls dialogue which is aimed at creating awareness about puberty and adolescence, and, in the process, demystify all menstrual myths in society. Other subjects covered are teenage pregnancy, rape, relationships, values most importantly to give girls a platform to learn and share their frustrations.

This year was a second dialogue and the panel comprised of great experienced specialists such as psychologists Mrs Blossom Makhubalo from Aurum, founder of gender based activist group Not in my name SA Siya Jentile, a great facilitator Ms Lungelo Mkhuzo and Miss North west Lindiwe Ndamase. Every girl was given a participation medal and a hygiene goodie bag.

The Chairperson of TP Foundation Mr Thabo Pelesane is a National TB Ambassador. On 24th March he featured Sunday Times Newspaper for an International TB project by Doctors without borders and was a guest panelist for Sabc Health Talk to be broadcasted on Saturday 30 March 9am.

“We can’t do it alone so we have a track record of successful activities and it has always been  through partnerships and support from the likes of Klerksdorp record, Maklera Magazine and Star fm for always rallying support so that our activities are publicised.

The event was trending across social media platforms and received positive feedback some saying 6, 5 Km was too little as they had absolute fun.

So many sponsors such as Dirammogo, Dirabotle, Aurum Institute, City of Matlosana, Moedi Civils, Dash Host, supported the event and one traceable Sponsor from day one in 2016 Coke SA has been with the foundation from day one Mr Pelesane said in life there is not proper way to participate in any physical activity without water that makes Coca cola SA a key sponsor providing water, powerade, mageu and Sound for truck for aerobics and any key announcement.

Ms Kgomotso Tselane TP F member’s gratitude message to the community “Your support has strengthened this foundation to continue making a difference in our community. We believe that nation building starts with  everyone playing part in caring for the less fortunate individuals”
