South Africa – The Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructure is erecting a fence at the Beitbridge Border, the border has been tightened after the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

Government coughed out R37 Million to erect the fence to control illegal entrance into the country in fears that the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic can worsen if the border is not controlled.

Seemingly the border fence has been vandalized to gain entry in and out of the country.

“UDM Leader Bantu Holomisa said through his facebook account; “Even before the lockdown period has expired, the border crossers are at it again destroying the newly fenced border area, General Holomisa said it could be people from outside or South Africans going to neighboring countries to buy liquor and cigarettes.” In future consider enhancing fence with cameras or drones”.

Meanwhile Minister Patricia De Lille has promised to investigate the criminal element damaging the fence, and said the contractor has increased security personnel. The Defence force has deployed soldiers to control the borders.
